Job description

English Teacher – Maternity Cover (SEMH School – Skelmersdale)
Start: September 2025 | Duration: Initially until November 2025
Location: Skelmersdale | Full-time | Pay: £162.31 - £223.62 per day (dependent on experience)

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs? A unique opportunity has arisen for an English Teacher to join a supportive SEMH secondary school in Skelmersdale on a temporary basis from September.

This role is to cover a short-term maternity leave initially until November 2025. The position has become available due to the current long-term supply teacher being successfully appointed to a permanent role within the school. While the post is initially for two months, the school is committed to retaining high-quality teachers where possible and is always on the lookout for strong practitioners to support future growth.

Why join this school?
The school has ambitious plans for development, with a significant expansion project funded by Lancashire County Council already approved. This is expected to be completed by September 2026, meaning there will be further teaching opportunities emerging in the near future. This is a fantastic chance to make a strong impression and be considered for future permanent positions.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a qualified English Teacher (QTS or equivalent)

  • Be open to candidates from a Primary background or other subject specialisms

  • Have experience of or a genuine passion for working with students with SEMH

  • Be confident, adaptable, and committed to supporting young people’s educational and personal development

  • Be open to working in a dynamic and nurturing school environment

Applications are welcomed from both experienced teachers and ECTs.
