Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Secondary English Teacher to join a Liverpool area secondary school. Start date September 2026. The role is temporary, long term, with full-time hours 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Responsibilities include planning engaging lessons, assessing progress, building relationships and supporting student communication and language development. UK QTS and safeguarding are required or desirable.

Qualifications

• QTS required with proven experience teaching in a UK secondary school.
• Right to Work in the UK.
• Enhanced DBS certificate (registered, or willing to apply).
• Safeguarding training up-to-date (desirable, training can be provided).

• Assessing student progress through homework, exams and in-class participation.
• Building relationships with students, parents and colleagues to foster a positive learning environment.

• Adapting teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and needs.

Location: Liverpool

Start Date: September 2026

Contract Type: Temporary, long term

Working Hours: Full-time, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Pay: Paid to scale

Key Responsibilities

• Planning and delivering lessons: Creating engaging lesson plans that cover reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
• Assessing student progress: Evaluating homework, exams, and classroom participation to track improvement.
• Building relationships: Establishing trust with students, parents, and colleagues to foster a positive learning environment.
• Encouraging communication skills: Helping students develop confidence in expressing themselves through discussions, presentations, and writing exercises.
• Providing feedback: Offering constructive criticism to help students refine their language skills.
• Adapting teaching methods: Using different strategies to accommodate various learning styles and needs.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Proven experience teaching in a UK secondary school.
• Up-to-date Safeguarding training (desirable, but not essential as training can be provided).
• Right to Work in the UK.
• Enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service, or willingness to apply for a new one.
• Ability to provide two professional references/cover the last 2 years in full/at least covering 24 months
