Job description

As part of our exciting growth at Options Autism, we're opening a brand-new specialist school in Guildford, supporting young people with autism, complex needs, and learning differences. This isn't your average teaching job. As our English Teacher, you'll have the opportunity to truly personalise learning, working with small class sizes and dedicated support staff to meet each pupil's individual needs.

You'll plan and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons that foster confidence, creativity, and curiosity. Whether it's helping a pupil find their voice through poetry or guiding them through the fundamentals of literacy, your role will be pivotal in unlocking their potential. You'll also work closely with our Senior Leadership Team to support curriculum development, monitor progress, and contribute to the school's wider aims - including emotional wellbeing and social development.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Planning and delivering creative and engaging English lessons
  • Supporting the development of literacy skills across all key stages
  • Differentiating content to support a wide range of learning needs and abilities
  • Assessing progress and setting meaningful targets for pupils
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students and families
  • Collaborating with support staff, therapists, and leadership to deliver a holistic education
  • Contributing to whole-school initiatives, enrichment activities, and school improvement planning

We're now looking for a passionate and creative English Teacher to be part of our founding team - helping to shape a new school where every pupil feels safe, supported, and inspired to learn. You are a committed, enthusiastic English teacher who believes every pupil deserves the chance to succeed - not only academically but emotionally and socially too.

You'll be someone who thrives in a close-knit, pupil-centred environment, and who brings creativity, resilience, and compassion to your practice. Experience in SEN settings is highly valued, but what matters most is your genuine passion for working with learners who think and experience the world differently.

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Educated to degree level
  • A strong subject knowledge in English
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A positive, flexible, and empathetic approach to teaching

Desirable:

  • Experience working with pupils with autism, SEMH, or complex needs
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed or therapeutic teaching practices
  • Familiarity with alternative communication methods or adaptive teaching strategies

Opening in September 2026, this brand-new school in Guildford is part of the Options Autism group, a leading provider of specialist education for individuals with complex needs. The school will support up to 40 pupils aged 11-18, offering a safe, structured, and inclusive environment tailored to meet a wide range of needs.

We place the outcomes of the pupils and vulnerable young adults in our services at the heart of everything we do, so you'll wake every day in the knowledge that your role will have a significant positive impact on the lives of others. We are committed to the safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils and young people.

At Outcomes First Group, we believe in better work/life balance - and we're putting wellbeing first. That's why we're proud to be part of a 4-Day Working Week (4DWW) trial, where you can work one day less each week (or equivalent hours), while still receiving your full-time pay.

Your health and wellbeing are important to us, so you'll get an exceptional reward package including:

  • Life Assurance
  • Pension scheme with options to increase your contributions
  • Your Wellbeing Matters - access to a wide range of first-class mental health support services and physical health checks
  • A wide range of health, wellbeing, and insurance benefits
  • 100's of discount options valid in the UK and abroad
  • Cycle to Work Schemes
  • Electric Car Purchase Scheme
  • Critical illness cover
  • Family Growth Support - inclusive benefits package covering enhanced maternity and paternity leave, along with paid fertility treatment support
