Description

Support those students needing extra help with maths and/ or English, working effectively and confidently on a one-to-one basis or with small groups of young people to develop their skills and knowledge in maths and English and as part of a team to improve the levels of maths and English in students across the College.

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

The following is an indication of the type and level of the main priorities expected of this role as directed by your line manager and is not intended to be a comprehensive list of duties or tasks:

  • Support students identified as needing extra support in maths and English and/ or teach language, literacy and numeracy on a one-to-one basis, in small groups or in the classroom, setting SMART targets and reviewing student progress through student records and liaising with relevant staff regarding any changes in support. This will include the preparation of appropriate resources to aid teaching of students with disabilities/ difficulties/ literacy/ numeracy/ language challenges.
  • Pro-actively identify and work with students needing help with maths and English in partnership with the maths and English lecturers, offering drop-in support as required by students in the maths and English Hubs, delivering extra workshop and revision sessions to small groups of students or in one-to-one sessions in a mentoring capacity. This will include supervising and monitoring students in the maths and English Hubs and where required in the broader college environment.
  • Complete day-to-day administration including records of support, recording student progress and developing learning materials,
  • Liaise with curriculum lecturers and maths and English lecturers regarding planning of support, requesting sequences of learning and lesson plans appropriate to student activities, working as part of the team to support the maths and English Lecturers, Advanced Practitioners and Directors to maximise student achievement.
  • Promote the development of maths and English including the use maths and English Hubs, through events and activities, working closely with the ALS team to support young people with additional needs relevant to maths and English, ensuring that students respect the environment and promote positive behaviour of young people.
  • Signpost students to relevant support services as and when required.
  • Attend department team meetings and staff development activities, both within their own department, across curriculum areas and across the College as required.
  • Contribute to and participate in parents evenings, enrolment events and open evenings, liaising with parents, employers and other external partners where required.
