Location: Horsham, West Sussex
Start Date: 22nd April 2025
Duration: Until at least May half-term, with potential extension until the end of the academic year
Key Stages: Years 7-11 (predominantly KS3, potential Media Studies)

Are you an enthusiastic and passionate English educator looking for an opportunity to inspire young minds? Teaching Personnel is seeking an English Cover Teacher to join a high-achieving secondary school in Horsham. This role is ideal for a qualified teacher (FQT or ECT), as well as an experienced Cover Supervisor with relevant subject knowledge.

As an English Cover Teacher, you will:

  1. Deliver engaging and well-structured English lessons to students in Years 7-11 (predominantly KS3).
  2. Potentially teach some Media Studies depending on experience and timetable requirements.
  3. Follow pre-prepared lesson plans and schemes of work, ensuring continuity of learning.
  4. Adapt teaching methods to support the needs of all learners, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  5. Assess and provide feedback on student progress in line with school policies.
  6. Work collaboratively with other staff to ensure high standards of learning and behaviour.
  7. Manage classroom behaviour effectively, following school policies and promoting a supportive and engaging learning atmosphere.
  8. Support students with their literacy skills and encourage a love for reading and creative writing.
  9. Participate in staff meetings and liaise with colleagues as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Qualified Teacher (QTS), Early Career Teacher (ECT), or experienced Cover Supervisor with a strong passion for English.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students of all abilities, fostering enthusiasm for English literature and language.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to teaching.
  • Previous experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4 is desirable.
  • A flexible, adaptable, and committed individual who thrives in a dynamic school environment.
