ASPECTS OF THE JOB ROLE OF AN ENGLISH ACADEMIC MENTOR

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with school staff to select students for mentoring
  • Discussing mentoring aims with pupils
  • Supporting pupils inside and outside the classroom
  • Creating and implementing action plans
  • Occasionally making home visits to discuss issues with parents and offer strategies
  • Liaising with schools, teachers, social workers, and educational psychologists, making referrals when appropriate
  • Supporting pupils' transition to secondary education
  • Helping pupils boost confidence and self-esteem through listening and strategic support
