Job summary

First Bus is expanding with a new depot in Wandsworth, London, seeking experienced Engineers to support launch and ongoing fleet maintenance. You will inspect, service and repair vehicles to keep them safe and reliable for customers.

Ideal candidates bring bus/coach/HGV experience, NVQ Level 3 in vehicle mechanical engineering, and a strong grasp of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. A driving licence, IT skills and DVSA PSV knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and organisational ability for a fast-moving depot.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in vehicle mechanical engineering.
• Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Full and current driving licence required.
• Good IT skills including Outlook and Excel.
• Experience using OEM diagnostic test equipment to fault-find and repair.
• Knowledge of DVSA PSV inspection standards and regulations.
• Desirable: experience maintaining one or more bus suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements; perform reactive maintenance and repairs using diagnostic equipment.
• Repair engines, transmissions, chassis, braking and electrical systems as issues arise.
• Build strong relationships with drivers and operations staff to ensure smooth running of service.

Are you an experienced Engineer ready to play a key role in an exciting new chapter for First Bus London?

We're looking for skilled Engineers to join our new depot in Wandsworth supporting the operational launch and ongoing maintenance of our fleet. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the success of a new operation from day one ensuring our vehicles remain safe, reliableand ready to deliver exceptional service to our customers. You'll carry out routine inspections, servicing and maintenance keeping our fleet operating at its very best.

What you'll be doing

• Ensuring compliance with Health and safety requirements – conducting reactive maintenance and repair using a full range of diagnostic equipment and techniques
• React promptly to issues raised by the operations staff and undertake repairs on engines, transmissions, chassis, braking and electrical systems
• Build strong relationships with drivers and operations staff to ensure a smooth-running service
• Prioritising your workload to ensure operational efficiency

What we're looking for

We're after someone who's a strong communicator, organised, and a team player. You'll need to bring:

• Previous experience working in the bus, coach, light or HGV industry as a mechanical engineer
• A NVQ level 3 or equivalent in vehicle mechanical engineering
• Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
• A full and current driving licence
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft outlook and excel
• Previous use of OEM diagnostic test equipment to interpret fault codes, identify and repair faults on a vehicle system
• Up to date knowledge of DVSA PSV inspection standards and regulations
• Proven experience in maintaining one or more bus suppliers (Desirable)
