Job Summary
An opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the Site Engineering Support Services team as Manager of Engineering Workshops.
RAF Cosford is the home of the Defence School of Aeronautical Engineering, Defence School of Photography, No1 Radio School and the RAF School of Physical Training.
The successful candidate will Manage the Engineering Workshops on Site, providing the calibration and testing of Test and Measuring Equipment (TME) and Audio Visual Aids (AVA) provision to support RAF Cosford and the Air and Training Wing requirements.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
Manage and ensure the safe and effective engineering output of Test and Measuring Equipment Testing and Calibration along with supporting Audio Visual Aids provision across site to support RAF Cosford and the Air and Training Wing.
Line Management of Engineering Workshop Technicians and Administrative Officer. Dealing with, supporting and making decisions on all day-to-day engineering and calibration testing activities.
Manage the Workshop workload, policies, training, any personnel welfare, discipline or motivation issues and complete Mid Year and End of year Appraisals for all Workshop staff. Develop and maintain the accuracy and currency of the Workshops Order Book and Processes including Terms of Reference reviews.
Manage Department Risks on the Actions and Issues Logs and PARMIS (Risks Management Tool).
Support personnel to ensure that all Civil Service and RAF Cosford mandated training and personal development needs are catered for iaw current policy.
Support and carry out the Workshops Quality Assurance activities as required (training provided) and maintain the currency of the Workshops Quality Manual.
Maintain a good working knowledge and understanding of the processes followed and the equipment used in all Audio Visual Aids, Amalgamated Measuring and Precision Equipment Cell, Mechanical and Avionics Workshops and the Administrative Officer tasks.
Represent the Workshops at the Wing Quality Review Meeting as required.
Support any external visits to the Workshops and Unit as required.
Carry out and assist the Engineering Calibrators with the maintenance or processing of TME received into the Bays.
It is desirable to hold a Full UK Driving Licence as there are occasions when test equipment and audio visual aids will be collected and delivered to departments across the wider estate using a unit vehicle.

Person specification
A minimum of a Level 3 Engineering qualification is highly desirable however, if evidence of relevant experience can be provided on the application and at interview this will also be considered.
Good IT skills are required, specifically MS Word and Excel.
Personnel may be required to apply manual handling techniques (at times they may be a physical 2 person lift)
Due to the nature of the role there will be limited opportunity to work away from the Site. This would be considered on a case by case basis and would be for administrative purposes only.
Working hours for the Workshops are ordinarily: 0800 - 1630 for Monday to Thursday and 0800 - 1330 on Friday.
