Job summary

Canopius is seeking an experienced Engineering Underwriter in London to support underwriting and development of a worldwide portfolio of construction and engineering risks, including Contractors All Risks and Erection All Risks, within Natural Resources and Heavy Industries.

You will apply disciplined risk selection and underwriting judgment while engaging brokers and clients to drive profitable portfolio growth.

Qualifications

Strong technical knowledge of Engineering and Construction insurance.
Experience assessing construction and engineering exposures, including Contractors All Risks and Erection All Risks.
Strong risk selection, technical underwriting analysis, pricing and negotiation capability.
Ability to interpret technical risk information and use data and analysis to support underwriting decisions.
Good understanding of portfolio management, market dynamics and the external environment affecting engineering and construction risks.
Commercially minded, with the ability to develop business opportunities while maintaining underwriting discipline.
Confident communicator able to build effective relationships with brokers, clients and colleagues across multiple disciplines.
Ability to contribute to underwriting strategy, product development and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Execute new and renewal underwriting in line with the business plan and guidelines.
Assess complex engineering and construction risks, applying technical underwriting analysis to risk quality, pricing, terms and limits.
Contribute to underwriting guidelines, policies and frameworks across Engineering products.
Act as a technical subject matter expert, advising on Engineering products and target markets.
Use risk analytics and market insight to support account and portfolio decisions.
Build and maintain trusted relationships with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.
Contribute to business development and product development across related underwriting teams.
Monitor market conditions, technology, regulation and loss trends relevant to construction and engineering risks.
Support peer review, underwriting governance and the application of underwriting standards.
Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to colleagues across the team.
And other ad hoc duties as required.
