Teaching is a central part of the Engineering Summer School programme at Oxford Royale. We are seeking a teacher who is passionate about introducing students to the fundamentals of engineering, including mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering concepts. The ideal teacher will use real-world examples and challenges to inspire students to explore the practical applications of engineering and develop problem-solving skills. Lessons should engage students in critical thinking, collaboration, and applying theory to practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and adapt lessons using the Teacher’s Guide, ensuring content meets the interests and academic levels of students.
  • Deliver inspiring lessons that introduce key engineering principles, including design, construction, and innovation.
  • Use subject expertise to ensure student progress, offering personalized feedback and adapting tasks to meet individual learning needs.
  • Lead practical workshops, simulations, and projects that apply engineering theory to real-world scenarios.
  • Mark assignments, provide detailed feedback, and complete student reports reflecting individual progress.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including maintaining registers and attending staff meetings.
  • Work with fellow teaching staff to foster a collaborative and stimulating learning environment.

Person Specification:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in engineering or a related field, with awareness of current industry trends and innovations.
  • Passion for inspiring students and fostering their interest in engineering and technological innovation.
  • Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly and adapt teaching methods to different learning styles.
  • Creative and confident teaching approach, encouraging problem-solving and hands-on learning.
  • Fluency in English and strong organizational skills.

Position Details:

  • Programmes are two weeks in length, with options for 2, 4, or 6-week contracts available between July and mid-August 2025.
  • Teaching takes place Monday to Friday, with lessons scheduled from 09:00 to 16:00, although shorter hours may be available in some locations.
  • Compulsory online and in-person training will be required before starting the role.
  • While key teaching materials are provided, teachers are expected to adapt lesson plans to suit student interests and contribute their own expertise to the course.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree (or higher) in Engineering or a closely related field.

Desirable Qualifications / Experience:

  • Experience teaching engineering or related subjects to students aged 13-18.
  • PGCE or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional experience in engineering or related sectors.
