Senior Engineering Technician / Technical Writer - Portsmouth, VA

Pay Range: $40 - $45 per Hour and Benefits

Summary:

This position requires applying qualifications to support Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical Technical codes by preparing Technical Working Documents (TWD) such as Job Summaries, Task Group Instructions (TGI's), and Deficiency Forms (DF's). Responsibilities include ordering materials, services, and rental equipment for ongoing and upcoming projects, conducting ship checks for interferences, developing estimates, and preparing technical documents. Familiarity with systems like AIM, ATIS, TIM, HAYSTACK GOLD, IPI, CITIS, and related databases or comparable programs is required.

Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent with credits in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Drafting, and Physics.
  • Completion of 18 semester credits in engineering-related courses such as Calculus, Physics, Metallurgy, or Structures may substitute for one year of work experience.
  • At least 10 years of practical design or field engineering experience, including problem analysis and resolution in design duties.
  • Minimum 5 years of recent practical experience in construction, conversion, or modernization of U.S. Naval Ships (excluding maritime ship design).
  • Ability to obtain CAC, NAVSEA badge, and NMCI account.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Current Confidential security clearance with eligibility for Secret clearance.
