HiSpec Motorsport
London
GBP 25,000 - 45,000
Job description

Job Summary

An opportunity has arisen for an Automotive CNC Engineer.

This is an opportunity for a long term career working within a family run business with supportive people who are proud to work for a longstanding British engineering company. We are a family run business and a close knit team. We have traditional values and we work in a traditional engineering environment.

We are among the market leaders in the production of custom brake kits and all the parts for the braking system for all manner of cars (Road Cars, Classic Cars, Race Cars, and Kit Cars) from one-off specials to low volume production.

Previous specific experience is desirable but not essential as this is a small, specialised industry with not many companies like us. However, previous relatable CNC setting experience and an interest in automotive engineering will be highly beneficial. We are however always on the lookout for skilled Engineers - so please do apply if you are experienced and you may be able to fast track.

Extensive on-the-job training will be provided as the successful candidate will be shadowing one of our experienced team members.

If you are looking for an opportunity to grow your current skillset in a supportive environment, we encourage you to apply for this position today!

What we are offering is rare in this ever-changing and uncertain job market. We will be offering full shadowing and 1:1 induction; you won't be just another number here, you will be a valued member of the team from day one.

We have a few different routes to take, initially being shown an overview of the company with a view to settling into one of our varied specialist departments. This will all be discussed at the interview.

Main Responsibilities

The main aspects of the engineering role are listed below, but this is not an exhaustive list:

  • Working in one of our engineering 'cells' on one of our CNC machines.
  • You would be required to set up the machines which you will learn as part of your induction.
  • Checking the main workshop area is clean and safe.
  • Cleaning the swarf from the machines.
  • Emptying the swarf bins into the 'tipper'.
  • Monitoring & maintaining the coolant levels in the machine.
  • Monitoring & maintaining the 'Slideway lube' level in all the machines.
  • Sweeping & tidying the workshop and various different departments.
  • Machine loading/tending; some jobs are more complicated than others, but all jobs need loading & unloading in a safe & timely manner.
  • Starting with simpler jobs, helping out in various sections with basic load/unload/QC check jobs.
  • You may also be shown anodising and powder coating as part of the induction rotation, spending time learning all aspects of the Hi Spec automotive engineering production line.

Depending on your level of experience, this will then work towards settling into one department after a period of time.

Each department can be regarded as a cell, or a group of machines:

  • You would be dedicated to a particular department.
  • Learning all the aspects of each machine, tools, jigs & fixtures in that cell.
  • Learning all the jobs that go through the cell, working alongside a more experienced member of staff.

This would then lead to mastering all details of the cell/department and generally lifting the standard of the department, as everyone works more collaboratively together.

The role will require you to work on various processes including Milling, Drilling, Grinding & Machining Centres and/or Turning machines. Almost all are CNC, computer-controlled machines.

We take pride in developing talent from/in the local community, so we really want people who live within a 30-minute commute to & from Dartford.

For more details, please contact our HR department who is happy to talk through the role with you in more detail.
