Engineering Technician – Baggage

This role is based at Gatwick Airport and is shift-based, including night and weekend working.

Responsibilities
  • To conduct planned and reactionary maintenance and intervention tasks on all plant and equipment which make up the baggage systems in Gatwick Airport, ensuring high standards and maximum operational uptime.
  • Undertake planned preventative and corrective maintenance mindful of asset performance and operational requirements.
  • Ensure all engineering and operational records are updated to meet business, regulatory and manufacturer requirements.
  • Pro-actively undertake and support performance improvement activities/programmes.
  • Take responsibility for safety, including others as part of a legal obligation such as the wearing of PPE, completing mandatory training and the reporting of accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Use GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office) as required.
  • Develop skills and knowledge to maintain and operate existing and new assets to ensure they are maintained to the required level.
  • Undertake role-specific training required for the role.
  • Work in passenger facing areas, as well as back of house areas across the airport campus.
  • Collaborate with colleagues; this role has no direct reports.
Qualifications
  • Advanced modern apprenticeship (Mechanical, Electrical or Electronic) or equivalent.
  • Core skill/bias of Electrical/Mechanical Engineering to at least ONC level (Level 3).
  • Technical experience working in a maintenance environment.
  • Ability to understand and interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings.
  • Understanding and proven experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Able to carry out system performance improvements.
  • Knowledge of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
  • The owner of a driving licence.
