Job Description:

Begin your journey to becoming an engineering technician with Biffa’s Mechatronics Apprenticeship.

Our award-nominated and IET-accredited Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship is a 4-year program where you will learn skills in electrical, electronic, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems disciplines.

During year 1, you will study at Sunderland Engineering Training Association (SETA), with short periods on-site. Subsequent years will mainly be on our Teesside site, with college attendance still required.

Your starting salary of £25,792 will increase each year based on your progress.

Upon successful completion, you will earn a formal Level 3 qualification and gain experience to achieve EngTech status with the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

The role involves preventive and reactive maintenance, fault finding, and servicing on a hazardous waste site, ensuring safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency.

Within Resources & Energy, we focus on waste treatment, recycling, and disposal, providing recovery and landfill services.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Ensuring high operational availability and efficient repairs.
• Installation work to standards.
• Maximizing productivity and availability, driving continuous improvement.
• Implementing planned maintenance and recording fault data.
• Performing minor maintenance operations.
• Liaising with external contractors.
• Staying updated on health, safety, and environmental legislation.
• Ensuring policy compliance and reviewing maintenance activities.
• Performing other related tasks as required.

Requirements

• GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above.
• You must NOT already hold a qualification in a similar subject at the same or higher level.
• Interest in maintenance and a desire to become a multi-skilled electrical/mechanical technician.
