Engineering Technician Apprentice Level 3 - Services – start a journey of endless opportunities

The role

Are you keen to start an exciting career in mechatronics? Are you a self-starter who is keen to grow within an innovative company? If so, we want to hear from you. We are looking for an Engineering Fitter apprentice to join us in September, who is excited about maintaining and repairing products that are revolutionizing the world of vacuum. We want people who are engaged and excited about solving unique technical problems.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Responsibilities, aligned with the Level 3 standard, include but aren’t limited to:

  • Developing an understanding of workshop equipment
  • Learning how to service our pumps by carrying out checks and maintenance
  • Learning how to repair and replace faulty parts
  • Applying safe systems of working including electrical safety testing
  • Applying proven techniques and procedures to solve engineering/manufacturing problems

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Leybold and our training provider, East Surrey College will collaborate to ensure that you are provided with continuous training and development.
  • The first year you will spend 3 days a week at East Surrey College to learn engineering principles, reducing to 1 day in year 2.
  • Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will obtain a Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Engineering.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Upon successful completion, you could be offered a Service Engineer role within our in-house team in Chessington, with potential to move into the field or within the wider Atlas Copco Group.
  • You could also be offered further training to expand your learning. Many of our Service Engineers began their careers as apprentices.

What we expect from you:

  • 4 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent, including Mathematics, English, and Science
  • A passion for engineering — experience from personal interests or school projects is a plus
  • A strong interest in learning and growing as a service engineer
  • An interest in engineering or construction and enjoyment in understanding how things work
  • Good timekeeping and ability to meet deadlines
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Pride in your work and keen attention to detail
