Job summary

A leading provider in rail freight is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician A to join their locomotive maintenance team in Southampton. This safety-critical role involves maintaining and repairing diesel locomotives in a 24/7 operational environment. Candidates must have a recognized Level 3 Engineering qualification and experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance is preferred. A strong commitment to safety and flexibility to work shifts is essential.

Qualifications

  • Apprentice trained or time-served engineer.
  • Experience in railway or industrial equipment preferred.
  • Flexibility to work shifts as part of a 24/7 roster.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, servicing, fault finding, and repair work on diesel locomotives.

Engineering Technician A
A leading provider in the rail freight and intermodal logistics sector, is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician (Grade A) to join their locomotive maintenance team in Southampton. This is a safety-critical role involving the maintenance and repair of diesel locomotives, including Class 66s, Class 70s, and Class 08s, within a 24/7 operational environment.

The key responsibilities for this Engineering Technician A role are:

  • Perform maintenance, servicing, fault finding, and repair work on diesel locomotives in line with planned schedules and in-service requirements.
  • Adhere strictly to health & safety regulations, local safety policies, and technical standards.
  • Follow all engineering procedures and quality standards as defined by the organisation.
  • Accurately record all maintenance activities, repairs, and fault reports in line with company and legal requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment in the depot.
  • Maintain, service, fault find and repair locomotives in accordance with approved maintenance plans.


Experience required for this Engineering Technician A role are:

  • Recognised Level 3 Engineering qualification (or equivalent)
  • Apprentice trained or time-served engineer
  • Experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance (railway or industrial equipment experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of rolling stock is highly advantageous
  • Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and high technical standards
  • Flexibility to work shifts as part of a 24/7 roster
