Collins Aerospace is a global leader in technologically advanced and intelligent solutions for the aerospace and defence industry.
This is an exciting new role within Collins and a unique opportunity to be part the ASG electric thrust reverser actuation centre of excellence, leading a team of technical innovators in the development of new technologies to position the business for success on next generation of aerospace nacelle actuation. The position will be located within a new bespoke facility in Wolverhampton.
Reporting to the ASG-UK Site Lead - Chief Engineer, you will be the engineering focal for all aspects of your assigned project, providing technical leadership to a global project team and the engineering point of contact to the wider organisation and customer.
In this role, you will advocate and be a key contributor to growing a high performing culture across the team. Working alongside the Project Manager, you will be responsible for establishing engineering project plans and budgets and delivering robust and proven system and product designs for nacelle actuation applications. You will provide leadership to the engineering team to ensure technical investigations are thorough, lessons learnt are addressed and a robust trouble-free product is developed.
Alongside the subject matter experts, you will ensure that engineering integrity is achieved, engineering procedures are complied with, and product strategies are in place to provide discriminating technologies for future products. Operating in a continuous improvement environment, you will be on continual look out for opportunities in the way we do things to improve efficiency, productivity and standardisation.
As an experienced and knowledgeable member of the team, you will facilitate and sponsor capability development of the engineers, individual growth plans and support recruitment planning to ensure the sustainable long-term success of the business.
This is a technical leadership role for Nacelle Actuation product family, the successful candidate will have demonstratable experience in delivering technology development and npi projects for aerospace actuation systems and products.
What You Will Do- Provide leadership to the team throughout technology development and certification process. Provide input and oversight for planning & delivery across the project, working in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Provide engineering expertise, direction and offer innovative and robust technical solutions in the completion of detailed actuation system trade studies.
- Drive an innovative approach to both ways of working and system development. Encourage innovative thinking and capitalise on invention disclosure and intellectual property whilst ensuring adequate protection to maintain competitive advantage.
- Deploy capabilities in the team and identify areas for continuous improvement. Provide coaching and support career development.
- Develop positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and build strong relationships with other functions to create a cross-functional and Global team culture.
- Advocate Standard Work, technical and process compliance for engineering activities
- Identify project lessons learnt and opportunities for improvement and ensure that they are captured as part of standard work. Plan to implement positive changes and develop new ways of working to increase efficiency, robustness and innovative approaches.
- Demonstrate professionalism and functional excellence into customer.
- Support the development of future tools and methodologies to support future programs.
- Ensure process adherence, including understanding of International Trade Compliance (ITC) and control of technical data.
What You Must Have- Degree Level (or higher) in an Engineering discipline.
- Significant experience demonstrable knowledge in Aerospace actuation system design, development and certification.
- Experience working with a Global engineering team, encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- You must have held a level of delegated authority (signatory) for your engineering discipline.
- You have a logical approach to technical problem resolution and decision making.
- You operate with the highest level of personal integrity, with awareness and the ability to work under own initiative.
- You are calm under pressure and responsive to change.
- You have experience leading teams. You exhibit mentorship skills and have an appetite to help others to develop; you should already have experience of successful mentorship of staff members within the discipline.
- You must have excellent oral and written communication skills and are able to operate all levels within the organisation, including reporting upwards to Senior Leadership.
- Computer literate; familiar with general PC software (e.g. Windows, MS Office).
