Softcat plc. is seeking an Engineering Technical Lead to raise squad capability by mentoring engineers and driving delivery with strong technical leadership.

You will set the technical direction, shape architecture, and ensure high-quality production code in an agile, collaborative environment. This role sits at the heart of Softcat's Internal Technology evolution, supporting a broader technology strategy and enabling growth.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on software development at Senior Engineer or Technical Lead level.
• Strong experience with .NET Core, C#, and SQL.
• Experience in designing distributed systems and modern architectures.
• Comfortable in Agile/squad-based environments and influencing delivery.
• Cloud experience with Azure and/or AWS and Git proficiency.

• Raise squad capability by mentoring engineers and enabling delivery.
• Lead from the codebase by contributing production code and refactoring when needed.
• Set technical direction through architectural decisions, patterns, and trade-offs.
• Mentor engineers via pairing, code reviews, and design discussions focused on engineering excellence.

Key Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on software development experience at Senior Engineer or Technical Lead level
• Strong commercial experience with .NET Core, C#, and SQL
• Proven ability to design and reason about distributed systems and modern application architectures
• Comfortable working in Agile / squad-based environments, influencing delivery without formal authority
• Solid experience with cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS) and Git
