Overview

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK's new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK's 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high speed services. The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract, which includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.

Responsibilities
  • Delivery of on-site survey information, including topographical survey observations, survey control network observations and geospatial monitoring observations.
  • Ensure setting out and quality assurance of the works is completed in accordance with the contract requirements in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the TBM Guidance System is always using accurate reference coordinates at all times.
  • Support the TBM Shift Engineers in resolving possible issues with the TBM Guidance System.
  • Perform the TBM Guidance System total station move ups when required and in a timely manner.
  • Perform the TBM survey window traverse to connect the tunnel survey control network with the TBM guidance brackets for guidance updates, in accordance with the relevant methodology and instruction.
  • Ensure the tunnel survey control brackets, benchmarks and spigots are installed in accordance with the relevant methodology and instruction.
  • Perform the tunnel survey control network measurements, including terrestrial and levelling observations, and store the data in accordance with the relevant methodology and instructions.
  • Perform any TBM setting out duties, such as push frames, rails and launch brackets.
  • Ensure the survey equipment, accessories and tools are kept dry and clean and stored in appropriate conditions both on the TBMs and the surface store, when not in use.
  • Perform convergence monitoring and reporting for SCL works, including shafts, adits and cross passages.
  • Perform as-built wriggle surveys when required.
  • Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Land Surveying or Engineering Surveying or ONC/B Tec in Land Surveying or Engineering Surveying or Membership of a relevant professional institution such as the ICES and extensive experience in the field of Engineering Surveying.
  • Experience proven in a tunnel environment, preferable in SCL and TBM tunnelling.
  • Experience of machine control/guidance systems would be advantageous.
  • A willingness to work a shift pattern.
  • Computer competence including experience of specialist survey software packages (Excel, CAD; AutoCAD, Microstation, Specialist Survey Packages; StarNet, LSS, SCC, Cyclone, Scene, Infinity etc.).
  • Extensive awareness of appropriate instruments and associated software for varied platforms.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings, weekly programmes and relevant QA procedures.
  • Relevant CSCS Card and membership of CICES.
  • A commitment to punctuality to ensure timely delivery of Engineering Survey tasks in order not to delay the program.
  • Demonstrated in your application and pre-interview stage that you meet the minimum job criteria and person specification for the role.
