Job summary

Reading Buses in Reading is seeking an experienced Engineering Supervisor to lead the engineering team on shift. You will supervise technicians and cleaning staff, oversee vehicle maintenance and provide hands-on technical support to keep our fleet safe and ready for service.

The role requires time-served maintenance background with supervisory experience, strong knowledge of PSV/HGV maintenance, and the ability to manage DVSA compliance and productivity.

Qualifications

• Time-served technician background or equivalent.
• Supervisory or team-leading experience in a fleet/workshop.
• Strong technical knowledge of passenger carrying vehicles/HGVs and DVSA maintenance compliance.
• Clear communication and leadership skills; flexible hours.
• Experience with fleet maintenance software is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Supervise technicians and cleaning staff, allocate work and manage the shift workflow.
• Oversee inspections, servicing and repairs in line with DVSA standards; provide hands-on support for complex faults.
• Check work quality, maintain records and ensure health, safety and environmental standards.
• Work with Operations to maximise vehicle availability and minimise downtime.
• Lead briefings and shift handovers; support Engineering Manager with staff development.
• Help improve fleet reliability and workshop productivity.

Job Type: Full time, Permanent. 4 on, 4 off/5am to 4pm.

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Supervisor to join Reading Buses and lead our engineering team on shift. You will supervise technicians and cleaning staff, oversee vehicle maintenance and provide hands-on technical support to help keep our fleet safe, reliable and ready for service.

The role:

• Supervise technicians and cleaning staff, allocate work and manage the shift workflow.
• Oversee inspections, servicing and repairs in line with company and DVSA standards, providing hands-on support with urgent or complex faults.
• Check work quality, maintain accurate records and ensure health, safety and environmental standards are met.
• Work with Operations to maximise vehicle availability and minimise downtime.
• Lead briefings and shift handovers, and support the Engineering Manager with staff performance, training and development.
• Help improve fleet reliability and workshop productivity.

What you will bring:

• A time-served technician background with NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Heavy Vehicle or PSV Maintenance or Engineering.
• Supervisory or team-leading experience in a fleet or workshop environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of passenger carrying vehicles or HGVs, and a good understanding of DVSA requirements and maintenance compliance.
• Clear communication and leadership skills, with a flexible approach to working hours and problem-solving.
• Computer skills, ideally including experience of fleet maintenance software.
