Job summary

James Lewis Recruitment is seeking experienced Engineering Managers for roles based in London within the bus and transport sector. You will lead engineering teams, drive maintenance programs and ensure adherence to DVSA standards to maximise fleet reliability and safety.

Ideal candidates will have supervisory experience in the bus industry, relevant heavy vehicle maintenance qualifications, and a valid driving licence. This is a high-impact management role in a leading transport operation.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent.
• Full car driving licence.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle legislation and statutory maintenance requirements.
• Previous supervisory or managerial experience within the bus sector is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop a team of engineering professionals.
• Ensure all PSVs are maintained in line with DVSA standards and statutory requirements.
• Maintain compliance with vehicle legislation, safety regulations and quality standards.
• Manage departmental budgets, costs and engineering performance.
• Minimise vehicle downtime and lost mileage through effective maintenance planning.
• Conduct staff training, performance reviews and development planning.
• Implement engineering processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage subcontracted engineering work and contractor performance.
• Promote a positive safety culture across the engineering team.
