What will this role achieve?

The role is vital within our fast-paced manufacturing operations team in Manchester! The Shift Engineering Technician will be a dynamic, motivated, and ambitious team player with experience in delivering change, driving performance, improvement, and developing new and improved maintenance strategies.

Engineering Technicians provide engineering resources for planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, refurbishment, installation, improvements, and modifications to maximize plant performance and maintain equipment to standard.

You will perform engineering work adhering to high standards of Engineering, Quality, Safety, and Hygiene, supporting the move to World Class maintenance standards. You will provide technical engineering support to production under the leadership of the Area Engineering Managers and work as part of a multi-functional team. You will also contribute to achieving Factory goals by efficiently completing assigned engineering tasks.

What will be your key deliverables?

• Provide full technical engineering support to production under the leadership of the Area Engineering Manager.
• Possess specialist knowledge of biscuits and cake manufacturing equipment and associated control systems.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and housekeeping.
• Decide on the best course of action for major breakdowns in collaboration with team managers and AEMs.
• Plan your time to prioritize actions.
• Implement continuous improvement programs using Speedy Kaizen, MBR, etc.
• Enhance plant reliability through effective management of downtime, PPM conformance, engineering planning, SAP PM, and budget management.
• Liaise with third-party contractors and ensure the Permit To Work (PTW) system is controlled safely and effectively.

Bring your experience

• This is a multiskilled role requiring knowledge of mechanical engineering disciplines, with some electrical experience. Experience in FMCG manufacturing is preferred but not essential; candidates from other sectors are welcome.
• Ability to operate efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment, making timely decisions. Proactive, solution-focused, and committed to continuous improvement.
• Proven engineering background with formal qualifications such as City & Guilds Level 3, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent in mechanical and/or electrical fields, plus practical experience. Strong team player with the ability to work autonomously and communicate confidently to empower colleagues.

Additional criteria

• SAP PM experience is essential.

Shift pattern

4 on 4 off, 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm and 7pm-7am), including weekends.
