Job summary

Biffa Group is seeking an Engineering Scheduler to coordinate planned and corrective maintenance for the Biffa BDR site. You will work closely with the Senior Team Leader, Engineering Planner and Engineering Manager to maintain continuity of works across shifts and assist with on‑site maintenance when required.

The role emphasizes hands‑on maintenance, adherence to safety and environmental guidelines, and strong stock control.

Qualifications

  • Diagnose plant downtime events and coordinate safe repairs.
  • Manage statutory requirements (LOLER, PUWER, COSHH).
  • Lead/deputise for peers; oversee contract labour and weekend work when needed.
  • Develop and manage routine maintenance programs and inspection reviews.
  • Ensure maintenance procedures follow PPM processes and drive KPI targets.

Engineering Scheduler
Working Pattern: 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri 5am-2pm with some flexibility
Salary: £47,613 per annum

The Engineering Scheduler is responsible for ensuring the continuity of planned and corrective work is distributed to the maintenance teams at Biffa BDR. Working closely with the Senior Team Leader, Engineering Planner and Engineering Manager, they will support in ensuring continuity in works is maintained between engineering shifts. They will have the skillset to assist with on-site maintenance work as required.

Key responsibilities:
  • Ensure that the plant is always maintained within prescribed Health, Safety and Environmental constraints and guidelines.
  • Report and communicate incidents as per the incident reporting systems.
  • Attend safety and maintenance meetings as required, roll out of site TBT and safety briefs.
  • Ensure that risk assessments and method statements are produced and in place for each activity and that all document libraries are up to date.
  • Ensure that all statutory and regulatory obligations are met and the annual maintenance calendar tracks inspection regimes.
  • Keep up to date with any legislative changes to safety and environmental guidance and all relevant Company policies.
  • Ensure site stores are maintained, controlled and audited to maintain high standards of stock control.
  • The preparation of parts and equipment for on-site works.
Experience, Education & Qualifications:
Essential
  • Effective diagnosis of plant downtime events, ensuring repairs are completed safely, swiftly, completely, and economically.
  • Manage the site statutory requirements, LOLER, PUWER, COSHH etc.
  • Deputise for department peers as required.
  • Manage contract labour as required, some out of normal working hours may be required, weekend’s etc.
  • Develop and manage routine maintenance programs, carry out review of existing inspections for value adding.
  • Works with technical engineering support and maintenance planning to ensure that first line diagnosis and maintenance activities in conjunction with current procedures is carried out in order to preserve the highest levels of safety, environmental compliance, plant integrity and availability.
  • Ensure works are carried out through standard maintenance procedures utilising the PPM process and methodology.
  • Support and be accountable for ensuring maintenance KPI targets are achieved.
  • Be the department lead for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Advise and make recommendations on overall spares holdings, service suppliers and develop lists of critical parts.
  • Project planning and delivery.
  • Assist the Engineering Maintenance Manager and the team in the development of a comprehensive set of plant maintenance procedures.
  • Retain a current intelligence of relevant industrial best practice pertaining to the maintenance of the equipment at the site.
  • Assist and ensure auditing and compliance documentation is completed, including the auditing of wider engineering documentation
  • Any other reasonable tasks and duties as required by site management.
  • Ensure site stores are maintained, controlled and audited to maintain high standards of stock control.
Preferable
  • Qualified/Time served multi skilled/electrical/mechanical engineer min HNC
  • Management of multi-disciplined teams
  • Nebosh/IOSH certificate
  • PLC /Control system/ Hydraulic/Pneumatic System knowledge
  • Competence with CMMS system’s
  • Process/Waste industry experience
  • Continuous improvement
  • Experience in the principles/practices of waste operations, operating principles of valves, pumps, motors and any other similar instrumentation, including environmental compliance
  • Fire Marshal training
  • First aider
  • Basic plant maintenance
