Job description

Engineering Project Manager (Automation)

Salary: £45,944 - £49,654, plus 10% annual bonus (subject to eligibility), 25 days annual leave, bank holidays, and a company pension scheme.

Employment Type: Full time, 41 hours/week, remote options available.

Role Overview: We are seeking a hands-on, technically proficient Engineering Project Deployment Manager with a background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and experience in Automation projects, including conveyor systems and robotics. This is a site-based role working closely with the Technical Project Manager to deliver automation solutions from design through installation, commissioning, and handover across Royal Mail sites.

About the Role
  1. Plan and manage the safe and timely deployment of automation projects.
  2. Coordinate stakeholders, suppliers, and internal teams for successful project execution.
  3. Oversee plant layouts, installations, and disruption planning with operations teams.
  4. Lead site activities including safety, coordination, delivery, and compliance (CDM, PUWER, UKCA).
  5. Manage supplier performance, value for money, and commissioning.
  6. Support project reporting, trials, and launch plans.
About You
  • Qualified Mechanical/Electrical/Automation engineer.
  • Experience in end-to-end site deployments and project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of CDM regulations and site safety (SMSTS preferred).
  • Skilled in MS Project, Excel, AutoCAD, and stakeholder communication.
  • Mobile and flexible, with a proactive, team-oriented approach.

While primarily based at the Gloucester Manufacturing Facility, the role may require travel across the UK and Northern Ireland. Occasional remote working may be possible.
