Job Description:

London Gatwick is more than just a workplace. We are a community of innovators, problem solvers, and achievers, united by our passion for pushing boundaries and overcoming challenges. If you're looking for a career that combines the thrill of the full project life cycle, a commitment to work-life balance, and sustainability, then look no further. Here at Gatwick, no two projects are the same; the only constant is the location.

We have a variety of diverse projects to keep you challenged, all on one site; and due to continued growth, we have many complex and interesting projects on the horizon. As a Senior Project Engineer in the Operations Programme, you will play a key role in ground-breaking projects that will shape the future of London Gatwick, operating in a fast-paced, energetic environment.

Your ideas will be valued, and your contributions will have a lasting impact on our organisation and our passengers. Your role is pivotal in leading the design of strategically important projects for Gatwick Airport with typical budgets up to £20m, ensuring that design meets project requirements while achieving value for money. This role involves every stage of the project process, including ensuring all projects are installed in line with approved designs.

The role

Reporting to the Programme Design Manager, you will be a key member of the Construction team, responsible for ensuring design meets needs across varied multi-million-pound projects, including working within defined sub-programmes on complex projects.

Other duties include:

  • Developing project scopes to support the business needs
  • Finding innovative design solutions that meet project scopes, are deliverable, meet GAL engineering standards, and are cost-effective
  • Creating clear and transparent design briefs for external design consultants
  • Managing and reviewing external design outputs to ensure quality, alignment with milestones, and governance
  • Collaborating with the Asset Information Team and stakeholders to determine asset information requirements for design and construction contracts
What are we looking for?

The live environment at Gatwick requires flexibility, adaptability, problem-solving skills, and an innovative outlook. You will work with multiple stakeholders throughout projects from inception to completion. Additionally, the role requires:

  • Experience in multi-disciplinary engineering design or design management, preferably in operational environments with safety-critical outcomes, managing infrastructure programs over £20 million, ideally in infrastructure, building, or operational development fields
  • Degree or equivalent in architecture, engineering, or construction
  • Chartered membership of a recognized engineering institution (highly desirable)
  • Knowledge of scoping and briefing processes
What do I get?

Our employees find working here unique, with daily opportunities others only dream of. Alongside a competitive salary, benefits include:

  • 5% Welcome Bonus
  • Performance-based bonus scheme
  • High street shop and restaurant discounts
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Professional training and development
  • Professional subscriptions
  • Discounted travel
