Job summary

Arriva UK Bus Ltd is seeking an Assistant Engineering Manager to support the Engineering Manager in safe, reliable, and efficient operations across our fleet and infrastructure.

You will assist with planning, supervising technicians, and implementing cost-efficient strategies. The role requires strong technical knowledge, team collaboration, and a proactive approach to professional development.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in an engineering role within transport or heavy industry.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and repair.
• Experience supervising or supporting a small team of technicians.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data interpretation.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Competent IT skills including Office and engineering systems.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation.

Responsibilities

• Assist Engineering Manager with planning and overseeing day-to-day activities.
• Supervise and support the engineering team’s development and performance.
• Help implement strategies to improve efficiency and control costs.
• Monitor fleet performance data and recommend actions.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and company policies.
• Support procurement and management of parts and services.
• Assist with projects like fleet upgrades and installations.
• Collaborate with Operations, Finance and other teams.
• Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Prepare reports and performance updates for senior management.
• Demonstrate proactive CPD and continuous improvement.
