ROLE SUMMARY

ENSEK designs and develops software that enables energy retailers to manage their energy consumers. ENSEK’s Ignition platform is a SaaS tool that provides energy suppliers with the technology to manage energy consumers—from quote to sign-up, billing, collection, and service, all in real-time.

As an Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in supporting our squads in delivering customer-centric solutions using the latest cloud technologies and delivering market-leading technology to our clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to a Tribe Engineering Manager, the Engineering Manager is responsible for the quality, speed, and sustainability of the products delivered. They manage delivery timelines, schedule expectations, and track progress to ensure the products are delivered within scope, on time, and within budget. The Engineering Manager oversees multiple squads.

  • Partner with the Product team to manage engineering delivery timescales and expectations, monitoring burndown and cadence within teams.
  • Track, monitor, and report on technical debt to ensure products are delivered within scope, time, and cost.
  • Identify where technical debt exists within squads and take action to prioritize and address it alongside other demands.
  • Foster a positive culture of engagement, maintaining a “glass half full” attitude, removing obstacles, and ensuring team engagement.
  • Ensure squads follow agreed Ways of Working, optimizing their performance and output.
  • Collaborate with the Agile Enablement team to adopt tools and methodologies that drive efficiencies.
  • Maintain an active interest in principles outlined in checklists and ensure their application within squads.
  • Work with Architects, Principal Engineers, and Product Owners to understand technical details, assess risks, and support engineers and testers in learning and safe mistake-making.
  • Promote a transparent, honest culture where product and engineering skills work seamlessly together.
  • Manage team ceremonies—stand-ups, refinement, retrospectives—in an engaging and efficient manner.
  • Provide line management, coaching, and mentoring, including performance reviews and PDPs.
  • Manage remote, augmented squads, working closely with delivery partners to develop strong relationships and embed ENSEK ways of working.
  • Add value to clients, colleagues, and stakeholders by embodying and promoting ENSEK values.
  • Maintain a positive, results-oriented work environment, fostering partnerships and teamwork across ENSEK.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  1. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
  2. Proven ability to manage, coach, support, and direct distributed teams.
  3. Solid experience in all aspects of line management.
  4. Experience in managing and delivering projects, prioritizing to meet delivery timelines.
  5. A client-focused approach with outstanding diplomacy and tact.
  6. Experience working with software engineering in agile environments is required.
  7. Experience in the Energy/Utilities sector is a plus.

SOFT SKILLS:

  1. Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen, collaborate, and influence.
  2. Proven experience interfacing with Product Management.
  3. A problem solver capable of facilitating timely decisions.
  4. Valuing teamwork, with experience working in remote teams.
