Job description

As an Engineering Manager at Workiva, you will serve as a leader of an agile product development team. You’ll excel at coordinating and optimizing behavior across a diverse team, fostering an environment of innovation and collaboration. With your technical expertise and visionary guidance, you will ensure effective team functioning and drive impactful product development.

This role is accountable for a range of responsibilities, including empowering and developing team members, overseeing customer requirements, providing technical oversight, planning and executing product development strategies, spearheading process improvements, influencing Workiva Carbon’s engineering culture by leading strategic technical projects, and nurturing stakeholder relationships.

What You’ll Do

Engineering and Innovation
  • Lead a team of software engineers, assigning roles and tasks accordingly.
  • Represent resource needs and team-related matters to group leaders, considering priorities, roadmaps, and capacity.
  • Define, assess, and execute product quality strategy guidelines in collaboration with group leaders and contributors.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, communicating them to leadership.
  • Collaborate with group leaders to define and plan group objectives.
  • Contribute to and deliver on strategic technical projects with hands-on involvement.
  • Promote sustainable development practices and agile principles.
  • Ensure accountability for the product delivery schedule.
  • Represent Workiva Engineering at events and participate in recruitment efforts.
  • Reinforce adherence to development principles, standards, and best practices.
Team Performance Development
  • Assess and document individual performance, recognizing contributions and growth areas.
  • Engage in meetings with direct reports, providing guidance on career development, work, and obstacles.
  • Foster open communication through skip-level meetings and feedback gathering.
  • Ensure a positive work environment and manage conflicts.
  • Prioritize team members' growth and provide opportunities aligned with their goals.
  • Participate in recruiting and onboarding new team members.

What You’ll Need

Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering within a technology organization.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proven success in delivering in a B2B SaaS environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in leading or mentoring engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and facilitating discussions.
  • Understanding of SDLC and software development best practices.
  • Solid programming foundation in computer science, data structures, algorithms, and OOP.
  • Experience with automated testing and process improvements.
  • Experience with Event Sourcing architectures.
  • Ability to motivate and guide teams.
  • Experience in Agile environments.
  • Strong testing background.

Travel and Working Conditions

  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Reliable internet for remote work.
