Job Description

This role works closely with the International Sonobuoys Programmes Director, Sonobuoys System Design Authority, and Sonobuoys Project Manager. As the Sonobuoys Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for delivering engineering activities on time, within budget, and to quality standards across all engineering aspects of the sonobuoys portfolio. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, ensuring solutions meet requirements and are fit for purpose. The portfolio includes new product development, in-service support, and existing products.

This senior role is suited for someone with a background in sonar or acoustics and extensive experience in work package management. Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience managing teams of teams
  • Experience in engineering estimation, with the ability to review, challenge, and defend estimates
  • Experience creating Work Breakdown Structures and defining delivery strategies
  • Experience producing engineering plans with dependencies, assumptions, risks, and opportunities identified, communicated, and managed
  • An understanding of different design gates a project goes through, from bid to full-scale production readiness review
  • A background in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, with an understanding of software and systems engineering
  • Coaching and/or mentoring experience

This role requires eligibility for Security Check (SC) clearance, ideally with no caveats.

We have three sites: Greenford, Loudwater, and Weymouth. This is a hybrid role offering flexibility to balance working from home and being on-site as necessary, with occasional UK travel. You are likely to need to be on-site at Greenford regularly, e.g., a couple of days per week.

The interview process involves two stages: the first with the Director of Engineering Projects and an Engineering Manager, focusing on role and technical suitability; the second with the International Sonobuoy Programme Director, focusing on leadership and fit, including a short presentation on establishing yourself as the Sonobuoys Engineering Manager.

Benefits on offer:

  • Optional 9-day fortnight
  • TOIL
  • 1 pm finish on Fridays
  • Annual bonus
  • Hybrid working options
  • 25 days holiday
  • Christmas shutdown
  • Option to buy or sell holiday
  • Option to purchase private healthcare, dental, critical illness, etc., via salary sacrifice
  • Reward hub with discounts at over 200 online stores
  • 4x annual salary life cover
  • Pension starting at 5% employer / 4% employee, with flexible contribution levels
