Job description

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

About the role

Amazing infrastructure isn't the only thing that gets built here. Incredible careers do too. Join our Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick team as an Engineering Manager, and you can build something to be proud of here.

About Sizewell C

The Sizewell C (SZC) nuclear new build project on the Suffolk coast is the second UK EPR facility to be constructed, following the Hinckley Point project in Somerset. The SZC project team has been tasked with delivering this critical UK infrastructure within a challenging time period.

What you'll be doing

This role will be Monday - Friday and hybrid / Travel to Bristol when required, to learn processes and build the team. Ideally 2-3 days/week in Aztec West, Bristol, UK. This may be adjusted based on experience and wider team requirements.

As an Engineering Manager, you will interrogate the Sizewell C CAD models on a room-by-room basis, within a set of criteria, to identify and define boundaries for "modules" (or sub-assemblies) that can be constructed off-site. This approach aims to reduce reliance on-site pipe welding compared to Hinkley Point C, thereby reducing the site installation schedule, improving quality consistency, and reducing rework and safety risks. Module definitions will be recorded on detailed sheets and reviewed by the Constructability Team. The final output will be used by Engineering to produce specific Technical Specifications for fabricating each module.

Accountabilities
  • You will be accountable for the timely identification of modules for a series of rooms in accordance with a validated set of criteria and rules.
  • Liaise with the Constructability, Engineering, and Execution Design functions during this work.
  • Depending on experience, review and/or approve the work of others, particularly for higher risk proposals.
Who we're looking for
Essential
  • HND/Engineering Degree, Mechanical biased (Qualified or equivalent experience).
  • Ability to efficiently navigate and interrogate CAD models (current design uses Navisworks).
  • Appreciation of on-site constructability factors impacting pipework/equipment installation in a construction environment, especially interface control.
  • Understanding of welding, construction safety, and lifting activities.
  • Methodical working style with strong attention to detail and presentation skills.
  • 'Can-do' attitude with a desire to contribute to UK nuclear new build projects.
Desired but not essential
  • Piping layout and installation experience.
  • Knowledge of equipment installation (valves, pumps, vessels, etc.).
  • Understanding of construction requirements and constraints, with mitigation strategies.
  • Lifting operations experience.
  • Hinkley Point C Site Construction experience.
  • Experience with Hinkley Point C Detailed and/or Execution Design processes.
  • Awareness of CDM regulations principles.
