Job summary

KDR Talent Solutions seeks a Software Engineering Manager in Oxford, offering hybrid working and a competitive package with an annual bonus. The role is a people and delivery leadership position, not hands-on coding, overseeing 3–4 squads of 15–20 engineers and collaborating with Tech Leads to improve delivery and develop engineers.

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading multiple software engineering squads.
• Hands‑on software engineering background with credibility to discuss technical challenges.
• Excellent people management, coaching and development skills.
• Experience improving engineering processes and delivery.
• Track record of scaling teams and hiring engineers.
• Experience working with Technical Leads and senior engineers.
• Strong understanding of Agile and Continuous Delivery practices.
• Ability to understand complex technical challenges without owning the solution.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the performance, development and progression of engineers across multiple squads, creating an environment where highly technical people can do their best work.
• Partner with Tech Leads to focus on people, delivery, structure and getting the best out of each squad.
• Look at existing processes, identify blockers, and introduce better ways of working across delivery, tooling and team structure.
• Own delivery across multiple squads by managing capacity, priorities, blockers and dependencies.
• Scale the engineering organisation by shaping teams, hiring plans and bringing the right people in.
• Coach engineers and Tech Leads, improve management standards and lead development conversations.
• Partner with the Business to align engineering capacity with wider objectives.
