Job summary

MAC Group Ltd in Lincoln, United Kingdom, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead onsite engineering teams and drive projects from feasibility through to completion, on time and within budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management (Master’s preferred).
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) status preferred.
  • 8+ years civil engineering experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • CSCS and ideally SMSTS, and First Aid at Work.
  • Strong knowledge of civil infrastructure design, construction and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team of site engineers.
  • Oversee project resourcing, scheduling and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with Commercial, Procurement, Quality and Project Management.

Being a key interface to both customers and internal stakeholders, the role requires an intrinsic knowledge of groundworks engineering activities while being operationally and commercially aware. Role Overview: As the Engineering Manager, you will be a key element in Engineering and Operational strategies and responsible for further developing the sustainable growth of the business.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management, (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) status preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive civil engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Valid CSCS and ideally also SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme), and First Aid at Work.
  • Strong knowledge of civil infrastructure design, construction, and project management.
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, BlueBeam, Project Management tools).
  • Significant experience of MS Office Suite. MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Project etc.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commercially aware with understanding of budgets, costs and contract negotiations.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

General Responsibilities – ALL Staff

Role Responsibilities

The Engineering Manager responsible for the technical leadership and project oversight of all the business projects. The role requires strategic thinking when managing site engineering teams, ensuring regulatory and customer compliance while overseeing all stages of the construction projects, from feasibility through to completion. The Engineering Manager must work closely with all internal stakeholders including, Commercial, Procurement, Quality and Project Management.

Key Tasks for Role
Leadership and Management
  • Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team of site engineers.
  • Oversee project resourcing, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage engineering resource requirements of the business.
  • Set project goals, allocate resources, and monitor team performance.
Technical Oversight
  • Provide expert guidance on engineering principles, materials, and construction methods.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international engineering codes and standards.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, innovative technologies, and best practices.
  • Where necessary provide additional on-site engineering support to meet the business needs.
Project Delivery
  • Manage implementation and any design aspects of civil engineering projects including roads, drainage, services, and site development.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet quality, safety, and sustainability standards.
  • Review and approve technical drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with internal operations, clients, contractors, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
Financial & Risk Management
  • Assist in the preparation and management of budgets, cost estimates, tenders and project forecasts.
  • Monitor project risks and develop mitigation strategies for all projects.
  • Support bid preparation and business development efforts as required.
Compliance
  • Ensure all projects fully meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and provide all project information in line with client requirements. This will include, As-built, quality manuals, Drainage CCTV surveys and materials compliance evidence for each element of a project.
  • Actively support the implementation and ongoing accreditation of industry standards, including ISO9001:2015 and ISO14001:2015.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily office-based with frequent visits to supplier and project sites.
  • May require occasional travel to meet with clients or attend industry and supplier events.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate project deadlines and customer/supplier meetings.
LOCATION
  • Lincoln, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom.
  • With national travel to customer and supplier sites as required.
SALARY
  • Project related bonus scheme available.
