Job Description:

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to oversee the maintenance and presentation of the fleet across multiple depots in Merseyside.

Purpose of role:

To oversee the maintenance and presentation of the fleet across multiple depots in accordance with current legislation, policies, maintenance procedures, and safety standards at bus garages as defined by the Engineering Director, Area Director, and UK Bus. Achieve fleet and workshop KPIs and targets to provide efficient and reliable transport services.

Main responsibilities:

  • Qualified or working towards Transport Manager (Management CPC Holder).
  • Deliver engineering performance and service delivery.
  • Ownership of core engineering KPIs for multiple sites.
  • Manage stores activities and KPIs (Supply Chain, Stock levels, VOR position, Warranties).
  • Ensure bus presentation and cleanliness.
  • Oversee fleet maintenance, repair, and service quality checks.
  • Manage ATFs where applicable.
  • Develop fleet reliability and improvement action plans.
  • Coordinate campaigns and fleet compliance.
  • Produce daily, weekly, and period-end reports.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Essential Postholder Requirements and Person Specification:

  • Strong engineering background with experience in heavy vehicle maintenance, preferably in the Bus/HGV industry.
  • Recognized apprenticeship or vocational qualification in mechanical, electrical engineering, or similar; or degree/diploma in engineering/vehicle maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety policies and practices.
  • Leadership skills to supervise and motivate teams.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Organizational and analytical skills.
  • Experience working with Trade Union representatives.
