Overview

At Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, we provide tools for the engineering of micro- and nano-structures, with customers using our process solutions to research and produce materials and semiconductors vital for everything from medical devices and diagnostics, to electric cars and quantum computers. Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the delivery of engineering tasks pertaining to your platforms, including CES activity, order processing through the engineering team, operational and field support, faults on commissioning, warranty issues, FRNs, DPs, PVC release content, CI and CDVA projects, design reviews, product documentation and obsolescence.
  • Scope and specify the developments and projects needed to meet the strategic goals for your platform.
  • Operate a continuous improvement culture on behalf of the platform, embedding Design for Excellence (DfX) principles and improving platform performance to deliver better value for engineering effort spend.
  • Support other platform design teams as necessary through collaboration with the Platform Managers and Lead Hardware Engineers.
  • Carry out line management for direct reports, including PDR reviews in accordance with company policies, and regularly review individual performance with the aim of parity across the team.
  • Check the output of the team to ensure it is in a standard format and complies with company quality, regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Work closely with other Lead Engineers to ensure a consistent engineering service across the organization.
  • Produce KPIs for your team and present them to engineering management monthly.
  • Lead and drive continuous improvement of the engineering function through support of the systems engineering team, maintaining a "one team" culture at PT by helping other departments where possible.
  • Carry out other tasks reasonably required by the Company.
  • All employees have a personal responsibility for their own health and safety and for the safety of others; comply with the Company’s health, safety and environmental protection arrangements.
Education/Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree (Postgraduate preferred)
  • Chartered Engineer Preferred
Professional Skills/Abilities
  • Design of precision mechanical/electrical systems and mechanisms. Broad knowledge of manufacturing techniques and materials with an eye for applying emerging technologies.
  • Technical excellence in an engineering discipline (Mechanical/Electrical/Manufacturing/Software) and CAD software (Solid Edge/AutoCAD preferred).
  • Lifecycle management knowledge.
  • Microsoft Word & Excel – competent; excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Microsoft Project – general familiarity with planning techniques.
  • Professional engineering drawing/design best practices; awareness of product cost, reliability and safety issues.
  • Keeps up with external trends in the job area; identifies opportunities to improve systems and procedures and minimise wastage.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and standards compliance requirements.
  • Capable of confidently checking/approving other designers’ work while providing constructive feedback to ensure clear and concise drawings are released for manufacturing purposes.
