Canonical is building a comprehensive suite of multi-cloud and on-premise data solutions for the enterprise. We aim to make it easy to operate any database on any cloud or on-premise. The data platform team covers a wide range of data stores and technologies, including big data, NoSQL, cache-layer capabilities, analytics, and structured SQL engines like Postgres and MySQL. We focus on delivering fault-tolerant, mission-critical distributed systems and the world’s best data platform.

We are seeking technical Engineering Managers to lead teams focused on Big Data and MySQL databases. Our team writes code in Python and employs modern operational practices for data applications at scale on Kubernetes and cloud environments.

Location:

This role can be filled in European, Middle Eastern, African, or any American region/time zone.

What your day will look like

• Lead a team building scalable data solutions for Kubernetes and cloud environments
• Hire, coach, mentor, provide feedback, and lead by example
• Contribute code when necessary to demonstrate engineering skills
• Manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and stakeholders
• Develop and promote engineering and organizational best practices
• Ensure your team delivers high-quality products that users love, maintaining a culture of excellence
• Foster a collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values
• Participate in leadership activities and collaborate with other leaders
• Work remotely with biannual global travel for internal events lasting one or two weeks
