Job Description:

Engineering Manager required for a grease manufacturer based in Stockport. The ideal candidate would have a mechanical bias with electrical experience within a chemical manufacturing environment. This role offers a high level of autonomy, supporting and executing asset management strategies with a focus on lean and continuous improvement. It also involves hands-on tasks such as implementing electronic PPM schedules and providing training. Preferred qualifications include 17th edition wiring regulations, IOSH, and PLC experience.

Position Overview
  1. Operating and managing the current PPM system.
  2. Collaborating closely with Manufacturing and Production Managers to minimize downtime.
  3. Driving ongoing site improvements.
  4. Creating SOPs, risk assessments, and conducting toolbox talks as needed.
  5. Managing and negotiating with subcontractors.
  6. Facilities and energy management.
  7. Implementing PTW and LOTO systems in coordination with the QSHE Manager.
  8. Performing planned and reactive maintenance on diverse process equipment.
  9. Ensuring timely completion of maintenance schedules and work orders.
  10. Logging and reporting maintenance activities and managing spares and consumables.
  11. Adhering to risk assessments, LOTO procedures, and permits.
  12. Ensuring safe operation of machinery and reporting failures.
  13. Adjusting work patterns as needed to meet production requirements.
  14. Assisting with site facilities management.
Requirements
  • Minimum of three years as a Maintenance Engineer or Supervisor.
  • Proven experience managing engineering teams, including development and appraisals.
  • Ability to assess staff training needs and facilitate their development.
  • Commitment to a safe working environment and compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Thorough understanding of automated processing plant and equipment.
  • Familiarity with TPM tools and continuous improvement practices.
  • Knowledge of thermal oil heating, cooling systems, and legionella awareness.
  • Experience with a variety of equipment including rotating machinery, process heaters, and packaging lines.
  • Strong leadership skills, proactive approach, and ability to respond to short-term issues while planning long-term strategies.
  • Understanding of PPM and CMMS management.
  • Knowledge of engineering risk, regulatory standards, and safety regulations such as PUWER, LOLER, and PSSR.
  • Welding, electrical, and mechanical qualifications, including 17th Edition wiring regulations and IOSH (desirable).
Remuneration
  • Hours: 39 per week, flexible within 6am-10pm, Monday to Saturday.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Salary circa £50k+ plus benefits: 5+5 pension, 4x death in service, 25 days holiday.
