Engineering Manager – Baggage

From £59,795 + £4,750 Flex Allowance + Up to 20% Bonus + Benefits

The Opportunity:

Are you our next Engineering Manager – Baggage? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering team.

What's the role?

The core purpose of this role is to deliver a safe, efficient, and resilient Baggage System—one of the three major flows within the Airport (the others being aircraft and passengers). This involves full accountability for the Baggage Systems to ensure high levels of safety, reliability, and availability of this critical infrastructure system at Gatwick.

The role requires strong leadership of the maintenance team and effective management of third parties and stakeholders.

What you'll be doing

  1. Lead and develop the Baggage Engineering team of highly skilled Technicians to deliver the maintenance plan.
  2. Ensure optimal performance of the Baggage asset base, including performance improvements to enhance system availability, achieving against OBP / CSS metrics.
  3. Drive EH&S culture across all teams to reduce incidents and promote a safe working environment.
  4. Produce effective communication and reports for stakeholders such as GAL teams, Airlines, and handling agents to enable smooth operations.
  5. Manage costs and contracts to ensure operational budgets are met.

Do you have what we're looking for?

  1. Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline preferred; HND level with significant experience accepted.
  2. Proven proactive leadership to promote health and safety culture, ensuring processes and procedures protect employees and contractors.
  3. Experience in leading, managing, and developing a baggage team aligned with Gatwick's strategic priorities.
  4. Ability to ensure system performance meets and exceeds OBP and CSS measures.
  5. Experience leading failure investigations to determine root causes related to baggage system and operational impacts.
