Randstad Technologies Recruitment in Manchester is seeking an Engineering Manager (Android/Mobile) for a 6-month hybrid role. You will lead a cross-functional team across Android, iOS, and Backend to deliver high-traffic customer-facing search products for a global tech platform.

The role is a player-coach position, driving agile delivery while hands-on as the Android expert and collaborating with Product and Design to balance speed with quality.

Qualifications

• Proven experience managing software engineering teams in a product-led environment.
• 5+ years hands-on Android development with Kotlin and modern architecture.
• Strong mobile DevOps knowledge including CI/CD and release management.
• Excellent communication to translate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead & Deliver: Manage a multidisciplinary team of 5-8 engineers (including contractors), owning the roadmap, resourcing, and agile delivery.
• Android Leadership: Guide technical decisions, review code, and troubleshoot Android issues (Kotlin, Jetpack, architecture).
• Operational Health: Monitor app performance and lead technical incident management.
• Stakeholder Alignment: Partner with Product and Design to balance rapid feature delivery with long-term technical quality.

Engineering Manager (Android/Mobile)

Location: Manchester (2 days in a week /Hybrid)

Contract: 6 Months (Inside IR35)

The Role You will lead a cross-functional engineering team (Android, iOS, Backend) building high-traffic, customer-facing search products for a global tech platform. This is a "player-coach" role: you will drive agile delivery and manage the team while serving as the hands-on Android technical expert.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead & Deliver: Manage a multidisciplinary team of 5-8 engineers (including contractors), owning the roadmap, resourcing, and agile delivery.
• Android Leadership: Guide technical decisions, review code, and step in to troubleshoot complex Android issues (Kotlin, Jetpack, architecture).
• Operational Health: Monitor app performance (crashes, ANRs, latency) and lead technical incident management.
• Stakeholder Alignment: Partner closely with Product and Design to balance rapid feature delivery with long-term technical quality.

What You Need

• Leadership: Proven experience managing, leading, or coaching software engineering teams in a product-led environment.
• Android Expertise: 5+ years of hands-on Android development experience using Kotlin and modern architecture (Compose, modularisation).
• Mobile DevOps: Strong grasp of mobile testing, CI/CD, release management, and feature flags.
• Communication: Ability to clearly translate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
