A quick look at the role
As Engineering Manager, you will lead, inspire, and develop the on-site engineering team to ensure a safe, efficient, and high-performing operation. Your focus will be on maximising uptime, driving continuous improvement, and fostering strong stakeholder relationships, even under pressure. You'll be supporting Biffa Green Energy, part of our Resources & Energy division, which produces solid recovered fuel pellets from non-recyclable household waste. These pellets are used as a coal substitute in heavy industry, contributing to carbon emission reductions and supporting a growing sustainable sector.
Your Core Responsibilities.
- Lead, coach, and develop the on-site engineering team to ensure a culture of safety, high performance, and continuous improvement.
- Maximise plant uptime and operational efficiency through effective planning, preventative maintenance, and quick resolution of engineering issues.
- Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, ensuring clear communication and alignment across departments.
- Support the site's contribution to sustainable energy production by maintaining equipment used in the processing of non-recyclable waste into recovered fuel pellets.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, promoting a safe working environment for all site staff.
- Monitor and report on engineering performance metrics, using data to drive improvements and support long-term site objectives
Requirements
Our essential requirements.
- Level 3 Qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Previous engineering/maintenance management and leadership experience
- Experience of managing health and safety within an industrial or manufacturing environment
- We actively welcome applications from outside of the industry, ideal experience would be - Engineering SNCO/Officer / Manufacturing - any industry / Hard FM or Asset management roles
