Job description

Closing Date for Application: Sunday 18/10/2026

We’re looking for an experienced and ambitious Engineering Manager to lead our engineering, maintenance, site services, facilities and capital projects function across our Building Products sites. This is a high-impact leadership role for an engineering professional who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and has the vision, commercial awareness and leadership capability to drive operational excellence.

The Role

As the Engineering Manager, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across engineering and maintenance, working closely with production and other manufacturing functions to maximise equipment reliability, minimise waste and continuously improve our processes. You will lead a sizeable engineering and maintenance workforce across multiple Building Products sites, developing a consistent approach to engineering standards, maintenance, CMMS, training, compliance and service delivery. You’ll also champion Lean, TPM and Continuous Improvement, embedding a culture where teams actively identify opportunities, solve problems and continually raise performance. A key part of the role will be managing both minor and major capital projects, including significant machinery installations, refurbishments and site improvements, with individual projects valued at £2.5m+

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, develop and inspire the Engineering, Maintenance and Facilities teams across the Broomhouse Lane and Neale Road sites.
  • Develop and implement the engineering strategy, policies, standards and processes to drive operational excellence, reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Provide engineering leadership for automated manufacturing equipment across upstream and downstream processes, ensuring high standards of maintenance, reliability and performance.
  • Drive TPM, Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices, including 5S, Kaizen, Visual Management and Value Stream Mapping, to improve efficiency, reduce waste and optimise costs.
  • Establish consistent engineering standards across both sites, including CMMS, training, service delivery, contractor management and compliance.
  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving and root-cause analysis to deliver sustainable improvements to product, process and equipment performance.
  • Lead major and minor capital projects from planning and procurement through installation, commissioning and handover, ensuring PMO governance and agreed KPIs for cost, schedule, safety, quality and compliance.
  • Manage capital expenditure budgets, including financial control, forecasting and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations and engineering standards, including PUWER, LOLER and electrical safety, while proactively managing engineering, operational and compliance risks.
  • Ensure the safety, welfare and professionalism of employees, visitors and customers through a proactive, best-practice engineering function.
  • Oversee site services, including security, cleaning and catering, and ensure buildings, facilities, infrastructure and equipment are maintained to safe, compliant and high standards.
  • Provide clear and timely engineering performance reporting to operational and senior management, travelling between sites as required.
About You

We’re looking for an accomplished engineering leader with a proven track record within a dynamic, high-volume manufacturing environment. You’ll combine strong technical knowledge with commercial understanding and exceptional people leadership. You’ll be comfortable moving between strategic planning and hands-on operational problem solving, and you’ll have the credibility to influence stakeholders at every level of the organisation.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Degree-level engineering qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Significant senior engineering, maintenance or facilities leadership experience within a manufacturing environment, including leadership of sizeable teams.
  • Strong financial and budget management experience, including CAPEX and projects exceeding £2.5m.
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale installations, refurbishments and capital projects.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment and production processes.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies; TPM experience would be advantageous.
  • Excellent knowledge of engineering, health & safety and legislative compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience managing contractors and external service providers.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • A decisive, analytical and creative approach to problem-solving, with the energy and resilience to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • A genuine commitment to quality, operational excellence and continuously raising standards.
