As an Engineering Manager at Story Contracting, you will provide dependable and competent technical advice and support to the project teams throughout our portfolio of works. You will have experience in the railway industry and possess technical knowledge of one of the core disciplines where Story Contracting delivers the majority of schemes. A sound knowledge of other disciplines to assist inter-disciplinary interfaces would be advantageous. You will also have demonstrable experience of undertaking roles under engineering management for projects NR/L2/RSE/02009, such as Project Engineer (PE), Designated Project Engineer (DPE), Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE), and/or Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM).

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide subject matter expertise in a specialist railway system discipline (building services, LV/small power, telecommunications, or signalling).
  2. Discharge the duties of Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) or Designated Project Engineer (DPE) in accordance with NR/L2/RSE/02009 on behalf of Story Contracting throughout the project lifecycle.
  3. Develop Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) capability within Story Contracting through Continuous Professional Development, mentorship, and guidance.
  4. Lead key account management (KAM) of suppliers within your discipline expertise and support project operational and engineering delivery teams.

The ideal candidate will preferably hold a degree in a relevant engineering discipline and be working towards or a member of a professional institution. A good understanding of current safety legislation and contribution to the safe management of design, development, and construction are essential. In-depth knowledge of Network Rail Standards and the Engineering Lifecycle of a project is also required.
