Job description

  • Based BSW Sawmills Ltd, Cargo, Carlisle, CA6 4BA

Reporting to the Mill Manager and working alongside the mill management team and key group

personnel, you’ll lead and motivate a team of multi-disciplined engineers, ensuring sustainable

production engineering practices and standardisation of engineering procedures.

Capable of fostering an environment of continuous improvement and introducing modern

manufacturing techniques to increase efficiency, improve quality and enhance safety, your role

will also involve maintaining a robust maintenance schedule and supporting the project team

with commissioning of the new equipment.

Specifically, some responsibilities of an Engineering Manager include:

  • Manage and monitor servicing plans to meet the requirements of site production managers.
  • Ensure plant efficiencies and performance are maximized, downtime minimized and make best use of silent hours.
  • Manage systems of priorities to guide the supervisor(s)/team leaders in organising workload.
  • Control spending within set budgets, ensuring the efficient use of purchased materials and that engineering stores are adequately stocked.
  • Uphold rigorous Health & Safety standards, ensuring employees are working safely, in a clean and hazard free environment & enforcing the correct use of PPE.
  • Hands on approach to leadership and continuously develop team members and apprentices in line with training plans and training matrix.

About you:

To succeed in this exciting and progressive role, we are looking for a motivated and organised individual with proven people management skills.

In addition, you will: -

  • Be HND/degree qualified.
  • Have a strong track record in manufacturing engineering.
  • Gained good working knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and principles, and direct experience of change management.
  • Have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Hold excellent computer skills across all Microsoft products.
  • Have high influencing and interpersonal skills.
  • Can work in a logical/analytical manner, quickly responding to and resolving any maintenance issues that arise.
