Job summary

Murphy is seeking an Engineering Manager in Cannock to lead civil and structural design for water and wastewater projects. You will oversee design, delivery, surveys, and handover, coordinating with civil, process, electrical, ICA, and H&S teams.

The role requires an engineering degree with strong experience managing projects from design through cost control, along with a track record in financial management and buildability. Chartered status is preferred.

Qualifications

• Proven track record in the water sector delivering civil and structural permanent works across frameworks to time and budget.
• Design & Engineering Leadership: lead design and engineering delivery for water and wastewater projects from surveys to handover.
• Cross-disciplinary collaboration with civil, process, electrical, ICA, and H&S teams to ensure seamless integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering delivery for water and wastewater projects, overseeing all stages from site surveys to handover on D&B projects.
• Collaborate with internal and external design and delivery teams to ensure buildability and integration.
• Manage projects from design and cost perspectives, with emphasis on financial control and risk management.

They design both permanent and temporary works for projects in all our locations and are a trusted source of expert advice for both Murphy colleagues and external customers.

A day in the life of a Murphy Engineering Manager:

• Proven track record in the water sector of successfully delivering:
• Multiple civil and structural permanent works projects across framework(s) to cost and programme.
• Technically sound civil and structural permanent works designs with a strong emphasis on buildability.
• Design & Engineering Leadership: Lead the design and engineering delivery for water and wastewater treatment projects. Oversee all stages of design and delivery, including site surveys, option engineering, outline design, detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover on D&B projects.
• Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate closely with civil, process, electrical, ICA, and H&S teams to ensure seamless integration into the overall project. Provide technical guidance and coordinate with both internal and external design and delivery teams.

• HND/Bachelor/ Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
• A designer with the ability to manage projects from the design and cost perspectives.
• Experience of effective financial management and control of projects.
• Strong analysis and design skills with the ability to interpret design requirements and analyse complex structures.
• A person with an open-minded approach to solving civil and structural engineering challenges to find the best solution from all perspectives of a project.
• Preferably Chartered with ICE and/ or IStructE.
