Job summary

Premier Foods in Andover is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the on-site engineering team and drive maintenance programs to maximise equipment availability and safe, cost-effective production.

The role requires a BEng degree or equivalent and at least 5 years in FMCG engineering management, with hands-on involvement and leadership across a team on site.

Qualifications

• BEng Degree (Mech, Elec, Mnf) or BEngTech / HCEng / City and Guilds.
• Minimum of 5 years FMCG engineering management experience.
• Management of a team of 7.
• Strong leadership and change management skills evidenced within a trade union environment.
• Proven track record of improving availability levels of production equipment.
• Knowledge and understanding of modern maintenance practices.
• Ability to manage people performance, coaching and development of a team.
• Basic financial awareness, understanding of business drivers, budgeting processes.
• NEBOSH/ IOSH.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering team to improve availability and reliability of equipment and produce products in a safe and cost-effective manner.
• Develop a 5-year maintenance strategy to achieve site and business goals including proactive maintenance in line with the masterplan and site vision.
• Develop an implementation plan to deliver the strategy with clear accountabilities, milestones and targets.
• Identify compliance and improvement opportunities with respect to equipment upgrade and / or replacement, and manage the capital budget, coordinating all capital requests with the central engineering team.
• Manage the engineering financial budget, including energy and utilities, and drive an energy and utilities minimisation program.
• Identify training and development needs for all engineering colleagues, and provide them with the necessary technical expertise and support.
• Ensure legal compliance to facilities management.
• Set priorities for engineering workload in conjunction with operations colleagues.
• Specify and select new / replacement equipment ensuring modern and current thinking is applied.
• Attend Trade Fairs and exhibitions to stay up to date with FMCG automation advancements.
• Coordinate the selection, training and development of all engineering colleagues.
• Plan and establish team objectives to meet schedules and goals, align with senior management.
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering excellent line management experience.
• Craft team culture and norms in line with Premier Foods Leadership values.
• Be part of site Leadership Team, providing visionary leadership to the holistic site.

A full time, permanent opportunity has arisen at our Andover site for an Engineering Manager to join the team. This role requires you to lead the engineering team to continuously improve the availability and reliability of all equipment and produce products ina safe and cost-effective manner. As an integral member of a small team of engineers on site you will also be expected to bepartially hands on to ensure the success of the site.

Job Scope

The site is managed as a cost centre witha total MCC of £5m.

Volume:

1 process line (mill) taking wheat from farm through to finished flour 4 flour packing Lines, 1 yeast packing line 34000 tonnes per year.

People:

48 permanent employees on site 6 engineers and 1 administrator in direct team.

The successful candidate will:

• Comply with relevant Engineering specifications, and Environmental, Health & Safety policies and current legislation.
