Job description

As an Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprentice, you’ll become a key part of the team that keeps IAAPS running smoothly.

As a world-leading R&I Centre that supports the wider transport sector in the transition to net zero, we have great ambitions – namely, to solve the industry’s biggest challenges by creating the technologies, tools and systems needed to accelerate the move to clean, affordable and sustainable mobility.

We are a commercial subsidiary of the University of Bath, and our world class facility based at the Bristol & Bath Science Park ranks among the top three independent institutions of its type in the world. With a team in place that brings together specialists from across industry and academia and a range of highly prestigious commercial partners within the automotive, aerospace and marine sectors, IAAPS is now firmly moving into a scale up phase.

General Overview:

Apprentice Responsibilities:
As an Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprentice, you’ll become a key part of the team that keeps IAAPS running smoothly. Here’s what your role will include:

  • Help keep machinery and equipment in top condition to ensure smooth operation
  • Continuous Improvement: Assist with upgrading systems and processes to make things run better, including facility upgrades
  • Hands-On Learning: Be involved in project setups, changeovers and repairs
  • Maintaining safe working areas and best practice standards within the test facilities
  • Shadowing more experienced colleagues working on various projects to develop knowledge, skills, and experience
  • Rotating around different departments and sectors within IAAPS such as mechanical, electrical and machining
  • Providing an overall project support role
    > Ensuring day to day facilities tasks are taken care of.

What we are looking for:

  • The successful candidate will be able to gain experience of cutting edge automotive, aerospace and marine propulsion system research and development, supporting current activities within the facility
  • A self-starter who is confident in their approach and able to work with the IAAPS Technical team and with academic staff, project managers, our clients, external service partners and suppliers
  • A flexible approach to work, with the ability to seek out opportunities to engage in learning, and meaningful development
  • Ability to work collaboratively to develop solutions to technical challenges; willing to contribute to sharing ideas, engaging others in discussions and problem solving

Qualification Required:
5 GCSE’s at 4-9 (or equivalent) grade to include English, Maths and a technical based subject
37.5 hours per week
Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm with 1 hour unpaid lunch
