Engineering Lecturer

Our Engineering Department is seeking a dynamic Mechanical Engineering Lecturer to join our team at the Medway campus.

The successful candidate will primarily teach on our BTEC Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Engineering. Key units may include:

1. Delivery of Engineering Processes Safely as a Team
2. Engineering Product Design and Manufacture (using CAD and 3D printing)
3. Maintenance of Mechanical Systems
4. Static Mechanical Principles in Practice
5. Fabrication Manufacturing Processes

Experience in welding, fabrication, electronics, or robotics would be highly advantageous for our students.

The college boasts excellent facilities, including a CAD suite, electronics lab, welding bays, and a fully equipped engineering workshop with lathes, CNC machines, and more.

Lecturers should be passionate about their subject and enthusiastic about developing students' English, Maths, and employability skills. Regular target setting and progress monitoring will support student success.

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

This list indicates the main priorities as directed by college leadership and is not exhaustive:

1. Deliver high-quality teaching, prepare materials, develop curricula, and assess student work, including monitoring progress and maintaining a positive learning environment, ensuring compliance with safeguarding, equal opportunities, and health and safety standards.
2. Manage course administration, including communication, problem-solving, timetable adjustments, cover arrangements, work experience, internal verification, and liaising with relevant departments to ensure consistency and compliance.
3. Assist with recruitment, enrolment, and induction processes to ensure proper registration and course placement for students.
4. Conduct regular student meetings, set and review SMART targets, support UCAS applications, and address pastoral needs in collaboration with college services.
5. Monitor attendance and results, report on performance, and implement action plans as needed.
6. Support English and Maths provision through classroom and one-to-one support, monitoring attendance and progress.
7. Participate in meetings, parent evenings, marketing events, and college committees, including planning and coordinating parent consultations.
8. Collaborate with colleagues to develop courses, training methods, and materials, attend CPD events, and mentor new lecturers.
9. Assist with departmental administration, including attendance tracking, reports, and updating the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
10. Engage in quality assurance activities such as course reviews, verification, moderation, and self-assessment reviews.

Lecturers on SPS points 5–8 will also undertake internal verification, coordinate resources, support curriculum and quality initiatives, monitor UCAS references, and liaise with higher education institutions.
