Job Title: Engineering Leader
Location: Port Sunlight Factories (PC Factory) Site Based
Work-Level: 1S
Job Purpose

The Engineering Leader is responsible for providing the required engineering support to the operation to meet the required performance levels via sustainable improvements in engineering standards and equipment reliability.

They are responsible for developing, maintaining, and continually improving the equipment maintenance systems and procedures. The Engineering Leader will work with their team to apply the appropriate UMS and other CI tools and methodologies to achieve these results. To be successful, they will spend the maximum time with their team in the workplace – coaching on a one-to-one basis. They will ensure that improvements are maintained through revision, training, and changes in manufacturing procedures/practices.

Responsibilities
People responsibilities:
  • Line manager of the engineering team within the operation, ensuring they are fully equipped and supported to do their role, and are empowered, skilled, motivated, and committed to delivering business objectives.
  • Leads and coaches the team on processes, training, and regular feedback (PDPs & 121 Completion).
  • Ensures teams and individuals manage interfaces with other departments (e.g., Quality, Safety, Planning, Warehouse, HR, Occupational Health) and are accountable in their areas of ownership.
  • Driving escalations and prioritizing work.
Areas of Accountability:
Safety
  • Promote a safe and efficient working environment in compliance with external legislation and internal policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported and analyzed, with resultant actions implemented.
  • Participate in incident investigations and ensure learnings are cascaded across the factory.
  • Monitor team compliance with safety rules, THAs, and other risk assessments, taking appropriate actions.
  • Engage with the OSHE advisor for support on risk assessments and new procedures.
Quality
  • Understand all quality procedures relevant to equipment performance and have a basic understanding of others within the operation.
  • Review quality-related losses with the Quality Leader and agree on processes to eliminate defects.
Cost
  • Manage the Repairs and Maintenance budget for the factory areas.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager and budget holders to assess and fund improvements.
  • Facilitate the generation and implementation of VIP ideas.
  • Highlight resource needs in line with HR policies.
  • Work with the Technical Department to ensure effective and cost-efficient stores for equipment spares.
Other responsibilities include:
  • Develop and sustain 5S programs.
  • Ensure autonomous maintenance schedules are in place and executed properly.
  • Support effective maintenance planning and activities.
  • Use tools like Loss Tree and KPI reporting to drive continuous improvement.
  • Participate in early management activities and support project teams on new equipment or product projects.
About You
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
  • NVQ/QCF 4 or equivalent in Engineering-related subject.
  • Dual skilled in Mechanical/Electrical engineering; membership desirable.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Outstanding IT skills, especially in Microsoft Office, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and SAP (desirable).
