Company Description

We're ASOS. We blend our flair for fashion with our love of cutting- edge technology, but more importantly were interested in how we can bring the best out of you.

We exist to give people the confidence to be whoever they want to be, and that goes for our people too. At ASOS, you're free to be your true self without judgment, and channel your creativity into a platform used by millions.

Job Description

As an Engineering Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping both the technical solutions we build and the people behind them. This dual responsibility ensures that engineering excellence is paired with strong, supportive leadership. You will guide the team through the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC), from architecture and design to delivery and quality assurance. With a hands-on approach, you'll directly contribute to codebases, solve complex technical problems, and champion engineering best practices.

Partnering closely with a Product Manager, you'll share ownership over team direction and outcomes. While the Product Manager leads the "why" and "what," you'll focus on the "how" and "when," ensuring that technical implementation aligns with business goals and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership
  • Lead and take ownership of the technical delivery across all SDLC phases
  • Contribute directly to architecture, design decisions, and development efforts
  • Drive code quality, performance, scalability, and maintainability
  • Facilitate agile practices and champion continuous improvement
  • Solve complex technical problems and mentor team members on solution strategies
  • People Management
  • Manage a team of 6–8 software engineers, supporting career growth and technical development
  • Provide regular feedback, set performance goals, and conduct reviews
  • Create an inclusive, empowering environment where diverse perspectives are valued
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and capacity planning
  • Product Collaboration
  • Work side-by-side with Product Managers to align on vision, scope, and technical feasibility
  • Translate product roadmaps into engineering plans and timelines
  • Co-lead agile ceremonies and ensure a balance between product and technical priorities
  • Drive measurable business outcomes through thoughtful engineering execution
  • Cross-Functional Engagement
  • Collaborate with designers, scientists, QA engineers, and stakeholders across departments
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security standards, and data policies
  • Represent engineering in strategic discussions with senior leadership
  • Contribute to the broader technical community within the organization

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience as a hands-on software engineer and leader of engineering teams
  • Strong technical expertise in software development, architecture, and modern tech stacks
  • Background in product-centric environments with agile methodologies
  • Experience in one or more of the following technologies is a plus: Oracle SQL/PLSQL, Java, UNIX Shell Scripting, Pro*C, JavaScript (JET)
  • Familiarity with Oracle Retail Suite (RMS, RIB, ReSA, RPM) or Oracle Retail v16+ is advantageous
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Passion for mentoring, problem-solving, and driving innovation

  • Impact: Directly shape product direction, lead talented engineers, and drive business value
