A little background on our Maritime team:

You’ll be part of the Geotechnical Team led by our Associate Director. The team is part of the Maritime UK Advisory Group, located in 5 of our UK offices. The Geotechnical Team works with all the other business lines, however, primarily works in the Maritime Sector.

Our Maritime team are at the forefront of innovative maritime planning, design, and development. We are multi-disciplinary experts that work on international projects to create successful ports and maritime infrastructure worldwide. We have provided expert commercial, technical and operational advice and created master plans across the five continents for a wide range of port projects.

The role:

As a Geologist on our team, you’ll be immersed in a variety of responsibilities, contributing your expertise to a range of exciting projects.

Technical

  • Develop geological ground models and undertake detailed geological interpretation.
  • Prepare and write high-quality desk studies and interpretative geological and geotechnical reports, and input into design reports.
  • Assist in the design, specification, procurement, and supervision of ground investigations, both onshore and overwater.
  • Analyse and interpret geological and geotechnical data, utilising software to present results both in 2d and 3d.
  • Ensure the compliant and timely delivery of services to the highest standards.
  • Identify and help solve complex geological and geotechnical challenges on projects.
  • Check your own work and the work of others in accordance with our quality management system.

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Work closely with the wider geotechnical team to ensure an integrated and collaborative approach to projects.
  • Organise and support junior staff and technicians on project-specific tasks.
  • Collaborate with specialists from other disciplines and Haskoning offices, building strong internal relationships.
  • Liaise with clients to provide geological support and advice under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals and bids for new projects.

We require an enthusiastic, optimistic, conscientious, and talented person with good communication skills and strong technical ability. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team and, at times, independently. The role will require close working with members of the various similar teams across the UK as well as with staff across other Business Lines. They must contribute proactively to ensure consulting services are consistently delivered to the highest standards, meeting and exceeding clients’ needs.

What we are looking for:
  • BSc/MSci in Geology, Engineering Geology, or a closely related Earth Science subject.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant practical experience, preferably within a consultancy environment.
  • Experience in the planning, supervision, and management of ground investigations.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical and geological software (e.g., Holebase/OpenGround, GIS). Experience with geological modelling software (e.g., Leapfrog) would be advantageous.
  • A strong understanding of geology and ground investigation techniques, particularly within a maritime or civil engineering context.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Working towards or having achieved Chartered Geologist (CGeol) status would be an advantage.
