Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an Engineering Geologist to join our Energy unit in the UK. You will perform geotechnical desk studies, prepare ground investigation scopes, manage site investigations, and develop interpretative reports.

The role involves working with engineers from multiple disciplines to deliver integrated geotechnical assessments for energy projects across transmission, renewables, and nuclear sectors.

Qualifications

  • Proven geotechnical engineering experience delivering desk studies and ground investigations.
  • Ability to interpret ground data and contribute to a ground model for design.
  • Experience in energy-related projects (T&D, renewables, nuclear) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct geotechnical desk studies and review existing reports.
  • Prepare scope and specifications for ground investigations.
  • Coordinate site investigations and assess RAMs for health and safety.
  • Produce Geotechnical Interpretative Reports and contribute to ground modelling.
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to deliver integrated geotechnical deliverables.

The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower,nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provideintegrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from conceptand design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension.Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.

Overview of the role

Our Energy Unit provides Civil and Structural expertise across various projects including Transmission, Thermal, Renewable and Nuclear. Due to continued growth, we are looking for a motivatedEngineering Geologist with demonstrable experience to join our Digital Award-winning Civil Team.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Geotechnical desks studies, preliminary assessments and reviews of existing geotechnicalreporting
  • Ground Investigation preparation of scope, specifications, interpretation and verification ofground investigation data and parameters for a ground model to assist in design
  • Investigation contractor management on site and office, including reviewing of RAMs andmonitoring health and safety compliance
  • Prepare Geotechnical Interpretative Reports
  • Experience in ground modelling
  • Working with engineers of other disciplines in a team in order to produce integrated geotechnical assessments into the overall project delivery
  • Assessing the ground hazards to projects and communicating appropriate solutions
  • Experience in Energy developments, and ideally in one of the following sectors:
    • Transmission and Distribution (T&D) networks
    • Energy Generation (Renewables, Hydro and Thermal)
    • Nuclear
  • Knowledge of Eurocodes, BS standards, and local regulations
  • Demonstratable experience in ground investigation site works and managing Geotechnical Investigation contractors on site
  • Willingness to travel to project sites when necessary for project delivery
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Working towards charatership or an equivalence
  • Working knowledge of CDM regulations
  • Supported proposals and production of client tender packages
  • Full UK drivers license or equivalent
